The third compilation in the "Slow and Low" series. I usually get a kick out of a good cover song...assuming it's well done. Some of them tread the line of cheesy, yet others create a new feel altogether. From my understanding, a cover song is a way to honor a song that someone views as classic. If that's the case, the more renditions that one song has by other artists, the more 'classic' it must be, right? Jealous Guy by John Lennon has been covered and commercially released 192 different ways...so it must be a classic (in my opinion, the Donny Hathaway version is better than the original). A recent trend seems to be to cover Umbrella, by Rihanna. According to Wikipedia, artists such as Amanda Palmer, Manic Street Preachers, OneRepublic, Lillasyster, Scott Simons, Marie Digby, Mandy Moore, Tegan and Sara, Vanilla Sky, Biffy Clyro, My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, All Time Low, McFly, Plain White T's, Taylor Swift, and others have covered it in different styles. As long as the cover sounds great or invokes a smile, it's all good. Here is a brief sample of some great covers of some great songs. 1. Easy Star All-Stars - Karma Police (feat. Citizen Cope) [Radiohead] 2. Ebrahim - Lady & Paris/Tokyo [D'Angelo & Lupe Fiasco] 3. Donny Hathaway - Jealous Guy [John Lennon] 4. Obadiah Parker - Hey Ya [Andre 3000] 5. Cibo Matto - About a Girl [Nirvana] 6. Ebrahim - Oops, I Did It Again [Britney Spears] 7. Kay Pettigrew - Fresh Prince of Bel Air [Will Smith] 8. Nina Gordon - Straight Outta Compton [N.W.A.] 9. The Bird and the Bee - Don't Stop the Music [Rihanna] 10. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Inspiration Information [Shuggie Otis] 11. Ben Kweller - Wait [The Beatles] 12. Calico Horse - Idioteque [Radiohead] 13. Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Shit [Dr. Dre] 14. Seu Jorge - Changes [David Bowie] Comments[5]

This podcast is a compilation of songs from artists I've been listening to for the last few weeks. Most of them are by bands I'll be seeing at Lollapalooza this year. All of them are on constant rotation in my car and headphones. The thing is, I'm a little worried. The high-level of hipster groove and soul within this collection has brought me to the point where I must warn you if you plan on listening to it straight through: This compilation will rock your socks. I have personally been through 3 pairs of gray Costco socks - it actually puts the 'r' in 'rock-socking'. It's disgusting. Be afraid. Oh, and Santogold leads the pack. My socks flee my feet and run in pairs when they hear her name. 1) Santogold - Shove It (feat. Spank Rock) 2) Spank Rock - Rick Rubin (President Eutl remix) (3:30) 3) M.I.A. - 20 Dollar (6:53) 4) The Roots - Rising Down (feat. Mos Def & Styles P) (11:07) 5) J Dilla - Creepin' On You (14:40) 6) The Cool Kids - 'Sup (17:24) 7) Kid Sister - Girlie Rock (Flosstradamus mix) (19:48) 8) Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (The Twelves Remix) (22:29) 9) Van She - Strangers (Van She Tech Remix) (26:05) 10) Bloc Party - The Prayer (Does It Offend You, Yeah? Remix) (29:51) 11) Does It Offend You, Yeah? - Doomed Now (33:08) 12) Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes (XXXChange Remix) (36:42) Comments[1]
